Grants for Math Majors

There are many grants available for math majors. Recently, many corporations, charities, schools, private donors and non-profit organizations have started offering scholarships and grants for students. There are grants for students studying particular fields of study, need-based grants for those who demonstrate financial need and merit-based awards for students who excel academically. It's just a matter of finding the best scholarship or grant to fit your needs and doing all you can to get it.
  1. DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program

    • The DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program is offered generously to students by the Department of Homeland Security. To qualify, each applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must be majoring in math, sciences or homeland security science, and they must be in their second or third year of study. The award amount is $1,000 per month for the nine-month school year, plus full tuition and fees.

    NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM)

    • The NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) are offered by the National Science Foundation to deserving undergraduate and graduate students. To qualify, you must be pursuing a degree in science or mathematics, be financially needy and be academically successful. You must also be a U.S. citizen. Specific requirements depend on the institution you're seeking the scholarship through. The award amount is between $1,000 to $10,000.

    Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology

    • The Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology is a contest administered by the Siemens Foundation to recognize the most promising math, science and technology students. To qualify, you conduct a research project in math, science and technology that contributes to the wider science community. You must be a U.S. citizen, and you must be a high school junior or senior intending on studying math, science or technology at an accredited U.S. college or university upon graduation. Also, you need to be academically successful. The award amount ranges between $10,000 to $100,000.

    Intel Science Talent Search

    • The Intel Science Talent Search is administered by Intel to recognize outstanding math and science students. To qualify, you must create an original science or math project that contributes to the science and math community. You should be a high school senior intending on studying math or science at an accredited college or university upon graduation, and you must be a U.S. citizen. The award amount ranges between $7,500 to $100,000. Each finalist also receives a new laptop computer.
