Grants for Older Adults to Finish School

Classrooms are not just places for kids---people of all ages are returning to school to finish their degrees. Thanks to the generous help of several different organizations, funding your education has gotten a lot easier. There are scholarships available for older students from private donors, non-profit organizations and large corporations. Below are a few scholarship opportunities for nontraditional, returning students.
  1. Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship

    • The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship is available through donors of the Jeannette Rankin Foundation. To qualify, applicants must be female, over the age of 35, low-income and pursuing their first bachelor's or associate's degree. Students must also write an essay outlining their educational and professional goals, any hardships they have overcome and a clear plan for the future. Award amounts vary based on the needs and qualifications of the applicant.

    Lenice Christine Merrill Eskritt Memorial Scholarship

    • The Lenice Christine Merrill Eskritt Memorial Scholarship is offered by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Foundation. To qualify, students must complete at least two semesters at USWP, be 25 or older, have dependent children, demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of at least 3.0. The award amount is one full semester's tuition (including fees).

    Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship

    • The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship is offered by Executive Women International (EWI). To qualify, you must be considered nontraditional; this includes students who are entering college for the first time after a long break, single mothers and students over the age of twenty-five. Students must also demonstrate financial need, have a clear idea of what they intend to do with their degree and must be residing within the boundaries of their designated EWI chapter. The scholarship amount is $2,500.

    Datatel Scholars Foundation Returning Student Scholarship

    • The Datatel Scholars Foundation Returning Student Scholarship is offered to a student returning to a Datatel client educational facility after at least a five-year gap in their studies. Students must write a personal statement outlining their professional goals and accomplishments, meet the community service requirements and submit two letters of recommendation. The award amount is $1,500.
