    Australian Development Scholarships

    • Australia has several scholarship and grant programs for international students.

AD scholarships were developed by the Australian government specifically for foreign students from one of 37 ADS countries. These grants are open to both undergraduate and post-graduate programs. AD scholarships come in two categories. The first is for public service employees who are nominated by their own government with the expectation they will return to their jobs after their studies in Australia. The second does not require nomination and is open to anyone. Students in this second category studying civil engineering would be expected to return to their native country and continue in this profession. These scholarships are multi-faceted, covering return airfare, an "establishment" allowance, necessary tutoring, full tuition and living expenses. Each country has specific criteria on eligibly which applicants must satisfy, along with all Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship requirements. The Australian Diplomatic Mission of student's home country will have more details. The list of institutions accepting AD Scholarships is long, with several having civil engineering programs including the University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, and the University of Sidney.
