The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas offers this scholarship for women in engineering. The award provides $1,000 per semester for up to four years for needy freshman pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering fields, including electrical, computer, software and telecommunications engineering. Women are given preference “as long as females are underrepresented in engineering fields,” according to a University of Texas at Dallas website. To receive the scholarship, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Students at the University of Texas at Dallas are eligible for the Ericsson Scholarship, a $2,500 per semester award for up to two semesters awarded to sophomores or juniors studying full-time at the Jonsson School or the UTD School of Management. Students studying computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, telecommunications, AIM or finance with a GPA of 3.2, or 3.5 for students also working toward a master of business administration degree. Students also must demonstrate community service, leadership and work experience. Students must complete 12 credit hours of studies to renew the scholarship for a second semester. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Cisco Systems, Inc. and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges offer two scholarships: The Information Technology Award for Women and the Information Technology Award for Excellence. The first scholarship is intended to encourage women to enter the information technology field. Six scholarships of $1,000 each are offered to women in their second semester or further along in their studies in telecommunications, computer science or other fields related to networking technology. Four $1,000 Award of Excellence scholarships are given each year to encourage students to enter IT-related fields.
