The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has so many grants available to students that they use two websites to access information and grant funding. One website is for grants and the other is for scholarships. The Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students provides partial or full scholarships to individuals with financial need. The Loan Repayment Grant provides loan forgiveness to students willing to work in health professional shortage areas. The USDHHS also offers medical education scholarships to students. The Nursing Scholarship Program provides students with full tuition and fees, book and supplies expenses and a $1,326 monthly stipend. Students must also agree to work at a health care facility with a shortage of nurses. For further information about these grants and scholarships, visit the USDHHS website (see References).
The American Academy of Nursing in connection with the John A. Hartford Foundation offers the BAGNC Pre-doctoral Scholarship in the medical field. The BAGNC Pre-doctoral Scholarship Program offers full-time support to educators and nurses committed to geriatric nursing. Award amounts range from $50,000 per academic year during a two-year doctorate program. Applicants must contact the American Academy of Nursing directly.
