African American Doctoral Scholarships

Study at the postgraduate level can be very costly. Luckily, there are a variety of scholarships available to help African American students successfully pursue doctoral degrees. These are available from a variety of organizations, and are often limited to certain fields of study or are contingent upon what a student plans to do with his doctorate.
  1. Ford Foundation Dissertation Scholarships

    • The Ford Foundation provides scholarship assistance to African American Ph.D. students through Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowships. These awards last for one year and provide a stipend of up to $21,000. In order to be eligible, a student must be a citizen of the United States, must be engaged in completing their doctoral dissertation and must be planning to teach at the collegiate level. The annual deadline for application is November 9. Prospective applicants should visit the Ford Foundation website to submit an electronic application.
