The Thurgood Marshall College Fund provides scholarship money to African American students pursuing a career as a math or science teacher through the Siemens Teacher Scholarship. These renewable scholarships are awarded annually in amounts up to $2,200 per semester. You must be a junior or senior at a historically black college or university, must be a U.S. citizen and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7. The annual application deadline is Aug. 30. The Florida Fund for Minority Teachers provides scholarships for African American education majors who are residents of Florida. These scholarships are awarded in the amount of $4,000 per year for up to two years. You must be a junior and not yet have earned a bachelor's degree in education, have earned at least 60 credit hours and have completed fewer than 18 credits worth of upper-level education courses. In return for receiving assistance through the FFMT, you commit to working as a teacher in Florida for one to two years. The annual application deadline for the fall semester is July 1, and the annual application deadline for the spring semester is Nov. 15.

The NAACP provides scholarship money to African American education majors through the Lillian & Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the amount of $1,000 and to graduate students in the amount of $2,000. You must be a United States citizen attending an accredited American college and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (3.0 or higher for graduate students).
