Scholarships for Masters Programs in Education

Providing the best educational experience for students may require that a teacher obtain an advanced degree. Scholarships and grant opportunities are available to aspiring educators at all stages of matriculation, but master's degree candidates often must teach fulltime and take classes toward the degree at the same time. A few scholarship opportunities reserved for educators at the graduate-degree level exist.
  1. The Straight Forward Media Teacher Scholarships

    • Straight Forward Media offers $500 scholarships to students who are currently teaching or are enrolled in a degree program with the intention to teach. The Straight Forward Media Teacher scholarships are granted every three months. The application process includes student information and two short essays detailing the student's reasons for pursuing a teaching career and how the Straight Forward Media scholarship would help. There is no minimum or maximum word limit, and, if awarded, the check is sent directly to the entrant. This allows recipients to use the scholarship funds for books, living expenses and other expenses unrelated to tuition.

Phi Delta Kappa Prospective Educator Scholarships

    • The Phi Delta Kappa's Educational Foundation offers endowed scholarships to non-members who are pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. There are 15 general scholarships for prospective teachers worth $1,000 each. Submissions are accepted in the fall for the following year's application process. Members of Phi Delta Kappa who are pursuing advanced degrees in education are also eligible to apply for an additional $1,000 PDK fellowship. Deadline for fellowship applications is June 1.

    Bright Horizons: Bright Futures Scholarship

    • The Bright Horizons: Bright Futures Scholarship offers a $2,500 award for students enrolled in an early childhood education master's degree program. Applications are accepted in June for the following year. Candidates are expected to submit a personal statement of between 500 and 800 words detailing their personal commitment to education and what obstacles they have faced in advancing their careers in early childhood education.

NAACP Lillian & Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship

    • The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) offers a $2,000 award to education majors at the graduate and undergraduate levels. While membership and participation in the NAACP are not required for eligibility, it is a factor that is considered. Graduate students must have at least a 3.0 grade-point average to apply and to qualify for scholarship renewal. Recipients must compete for the scholarship again at the end of the award term. Application deadline for the Lillian & Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship is the spring prior to the semester under consideration.
