Scholarships for Masters in Social Work

A variety of scholarships are available to students who are pursuing a master's degree that will prepare them for a career in social work. Scholarships for study of the social sciences at the graduate level are often limited to students in a specific area of study, in a certain geographical area or of a particular ethnicity.
  1. David C. Maloney Scholarship

    • The National Organization for Human Services offers scholarship assistance to a student pursuing a master's degree in the social sciences with a concentration in human services. To be eligible for the David C. Maloney Scholarship, a student must be a member of NOHS and have been a member for at least a year. In addition, a student must have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a scale of 4.0, and be pursuing a degree in a program that includes the words "human service" or "human services" in the title. Application deadline is April 1.

    Marin Community Foundation

    • The Marin Community Foundation offers scholarships to students pursuing a master's degree in the social sciences at certain California colleges. New Leader Scholarships are awarded in amounts up to $7,000. To be eligible, a student must be pursuing a graduate degree in the social sciences or a related field, must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, and must be attending San Francisco State University, California State University at East Bay, San Jose State University, the University of California at Berkeley or Sonoma State University. Application deadline is March 15.

    Dr. Joyce Beckett Grad Student Tuition Scholarship

    • The National Association of Black Social Workers offers scholarships to African-American students pursuing a master's degree in the social sciences. To be eligible for the Dr. Joyce Beckett Grad Student Tuition Scholarship, a student must be a paid active member of the NABSW at the time of application, and must have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a scale of 4.0. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000. NABSW members may also apply for a Selena Danette Brown Book Scholarship that provides $250 for books. Application deadline is Dec. 4.
