The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is an association of 3,000 individual members and college social work programs. Since 1952, CSWE has worked to provide educational and professional opportunities to social work professionals. To assist with the expenses of college, the organization sponsors the Carl A. Scott Memorial Fund that provides book scholarships for social work studies and a minority fellowship program.
One of the fund's programs includes a $500 book scholarship to students who have a demonstrated “commitment to work for equity and social justice.” To qualify for the award, applicants must be in the last year of study for a baccalaureate degree or master’s degree program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; be a student of color; have at least a 3.0 GPA; and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
The CSWE Minority Book Fellowship provides monthly stipends for a period up to three years to defray the living expenses associated with pursuing a doctoral degree in social work. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; be a student of color; possess a master's of social work; and have a demonstrated commitment to leadership in the field of mental health and substance abuse services.
