Scholarships for a Biology Major

Students with degrees in biology are able to find employment in a variety of occupations. Unfortunately, college educations are expensive, and paying for schooling can be difficult. Fortunately there are many scholarships that are available to biology students.
  1. Libbie H. Hyman Memorial Scholarship

    • The Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology offers the Libbie H. Hyman Memorial Scholarship every year to biology students who are studying invertebrates at a field station. The award is in the amount of $1,000, and is usually awarded to graduate students or undergraduate students who are close to graduation. Interested Students should visit the SICB website or contact the chair of the scholarship committee for more information.

    National Network for Environmental Management Studies Fellowship

    • The United States Environmental Protection Agency offers the National Network for Environmental Management Studies Fellowship every year to 16 undergraduate or graduate students. The amount of the awards varies. To be eligible, students must be studying biology or environmental science. The purpose of this fellowship is to help students participate in a project related to environmental protection or pollution control. The annual deadline for application is in February. In order to apply, students must submit three completed application packets. Interested students should visit the EPA website for more information.

    GCA Scholarships

    • The Garden Club of America awards a number of scholarships every year for students who are studying plant biology. One is the Katherine M. Grosscup Scholarship, which is valued at up to $3,000 and available to students in certain Midwestern states who are studying botany or horticulture and have a demonstrated financial need. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany grant $5,500 to two or more students every year to promote the conservation of tropical forests. Visit the GCA website for a full list of available scholarships.
