Water Engineering Scholarships

Many students study civil and structural engineering so that they can find a job involving water engineering. College degrees specializing in water engineering can help students attain jobs in several fields. There are a number of scholarships available to help engineering students pay for their education, and to encourage civil engineering students to pursue a career in water engineering.
  1. ASDSO Scholarships

    • The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) provides annual scholarships to civil engineering students who plan to pursue a career related to the construction or operation of dams. Scholarships are valued at up to $10,000. Students must be undergraduates in order to be eligible, and must have a grade point average of 2.5 or better. Applicants will be judged on the basis of financial need, work experience, and a submitted essay. The deadline for applications is March 31, as of June 2010.

    USSD Scholarship Program

    • The United States Society on Dams (USSD) offers three scholarships every year. Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000. These awards are for graduate-level students only. According to the USSD website, these funds are intended to support research that "have a potential for developing practical solutions to design and construction problems and other dam-related issues." Applicants must be United States citizens, must be attending school in the United States, and must be student members of the USSD in order to be eligible.

    ASCE Samuel Fletcher Tapman Scholarship

    • The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offers the Samuel Fletcher Tapman Scholarship annually to up to 12 undergraduates studying in any branch of civil engineering, including water engineering. The scholarship is awarded in amounts of up to $3,000. Applicants must be student members of the ASCE in order to be eligible. Students must submit a personal essay and detailed annual budget with their application packets. The annual deadline for applications is in February.
