Scholarships for Electrical Engineering

Many high school students interested in science and its applications go on to pursue collegiate degrees in electrical engineering. Because attending college can be expensive, many scholarships exist that can help electrical engineering students defray the costs of education and to encourage prospective students to pursue degrees in the field.
  1. IEEE Regional Student Paper Contest

    • The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) offers scholarships to electrical engineering students every year through its several branches. One of these scholarships is the annual set of prizes associated with the IEEE Regional Student Paper Contests. To compete, students must be a member of the IEEE student branch. There are three prizes awarded in each of 10 regions, in the amount of $800, $500 and $200. Interested students should contact IEEE Student Services for more information, as eligibility requirements and deadlines vary by region.

IEEE Life Member Graduate Study Fellowship in Electrical Engineering

    • The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) also offers a Graduate Fellowship to a first-year graduate student pursuing a degree in an area of electrical engineering. The award includes an annual stipend of $10,000 and carries the possibility of extension for a second year, based on satisfactory academic progress made during the student's first year. Students awarded this fellowship are allowed to hold other awards or fellowships simultaneously. Nomination forms and further information can be found on the IEEE website.

    Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program

    • The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program offers approximately 300 scholarships every year to eligible students enrolled in an undergraduate program in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. The award is designed to cover the cost of tuition, books, room and board and other fees, for up to $7,500 per year. More information and applications can be found at the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program website, or by calling Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central time.
