Scholarships for Manufacturing & Engineering

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) offers several annual scholarships that support manufacturing and engineering students. The SME Education Foundation awards an average of 100 scholarships annually in amounts of at least $1,000. SME awards scholarships to undergraduate students, graduate students, and to graduating high school seniors accepted to an institution to study manufacturing and engineering. Students must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada in order to be eligible for SME scholarships. Individual undergraduate and graduate scholarships have specific GPA requirements.
  1. SME Caterpillar Scholars Award Fund

    • One scholarship offered through the SME is the Caterpillar Scholars Award Fund. These scholarships provide $2,000 to undergraduate students enrolled in manufacturing engineering programs. At least five Caterpillar Scholarships are awarded each year. These are one-time scholarships and are not renewable. Applicants must be enrolled full-time, and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 in order to be eligible. Students who are of minority ethnicity status may apply for this scholarship as incoming freshman. Interested students should visit the SME website for more information.

    Edward S. Roth Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship

    • The Edward S. Roth Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship is awarded to graduate or undergraduate engineering students. The award is in the amount of $2,500. Applicants must be attending one of 13 ABET-accredited schools in order to be eligible. Students must also be citizens of the United States with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. According to the SME website, preference will be given to students of minority ethnicity, students with a demonstrated financial need, and students who are participating in a co-op program.     William E. Weisel Scholarship

    • Another scholarship offered annually by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation is the William E. Weisel Scholarship. The award is in the amount of $1,000. Only undergraduate students are eligible. In order to be eligible, students must be attending school full-time in the United States or Canada, must have completed at least 30 credit-hours, must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Preference will be given to an applicant who is interested in a career in robotics. Interested students should visit the SME website for more information.
