One scholarship offered through the SME is the Caterpillar Scholars Award Fund. These scholarships provide $2,000 to undergraduate students enrolled in manufacturing engineering programs. At least five Caterpillar Scholarships are awarded each year. These are one-time scholarships and are not renewable. Applicants must be enrolled full-time, and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 in order to be eligible. The Edward S. Roth Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship is awarded to graduate or undergraduate engineering students. The award is in the amount of $2,500. Applicants must be attending one of 13 ABET-accredited schools in order to be eligible. Students must also be citizens of the United States with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. According to the SME website, preference will be given to students of minority ethnicity, students with a demonstrated financial need, and students who are participating in a co-op program. Another scholarship offered annually by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation is the William E. Weisel Scholarship. The award is in the amount of $1,000. Only undergraduate students are eligible. In order to be eligible, students must be attending school full-time in the United States or Canada, must have completed at least 30 credit-hours, must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
