How to Make a Schedule for Your Semester

College is a place to learn a great many things. Chief among these lessons should be how to organize your time. In college you have to plan more than your class schedule, you also have to account for study time, meal times and even fun times. You may also have to plan for a part-time job to support yourself while you go to school. Finding an effective way to account for that time will pay off for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a planner or pocket calendar that you can keep with you as you go through your day. This helps you see where you need to be next, and to make changes as needed.

    • 2

Get a course schedule, a schedule for any extracurricular activities and your work schedule and place them in front of you.

    • 3

Open your planner and block off times for which you cannot schedule classes. These include your job and other extra-curricular commitments.

    • 4

Choose your classes and write their names in the appropriate time slots in your calendar. Then try your best to sign up for the classes at the times you want.

    • 5

Schedule and mark specific time for study. Even if you have no current assignments, you can work ahead.

    • 6

Leave time to have fun and enjoy the college experience. Leave blocks of time when you can go out with friends or watch a movie.

    • 7

Retain flexibility in your schedule. Give yourself leeway to adjust the schedule. For example, if your friends are going to a movie during study time, you can change the schedule so that you study during your next scheduled fun time.
