How to Make a Schedule for Your Odd ADHD Preschooler

A preschooler with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) needs a lot of attention from his parent on a day-to-day basis. Most young children have an excessive amount on energy, but ADHD preschoolers have a hard time focusing and paying attention to details. Parents are able to help their ADHD child by making and implementing a detailed schedule each day.

Instructions

    • 1

Tape up a large poster board where your preschooler can see it every day.

    • 2

Write out a schedule that covers the entire day, from the time the child wakes up until the moment they go to bed. A schedule helps an ADHD preschooler stay organized and focused.

    • 3

Don't plan activities for longer than 30 minutes each. ADHD preschoolers have a short attention span, so long activities will not go over well.

    • 4

Include mealtimes and nap times on the schedule.

    • 5

Notify your child of changes to the schedule a few days in advance. This helps keep surprises to a minimum, which helps an ADHD kid from acting out.

    • 6

Write changes to the schedule on a note card, and tape them over the poster board temporarily. This helps remind the preschooler of the change in schedule that day.
