How to Create a Time Schedule

"You cannot hope to achieve your goals in life unless you discipline yourself to order your acts in conformity with your goals," according to the Columbia University website. With a time schedule, you can keep track of events, such as basketball games, midterms, reports, album releases, musical recitals, and birthdays; pay bills and other important actions. With a hectic academic and work schedule, creating a time schedule can help you organize your life.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw boxes with a ruler. The schedule should have eight horizontal boxes and 12 to 14 vertical boxes. The horizontal boxes symbolize the days of the week and the vertical boxes symbolize the hours.

    • 2

Fill in the days, dates and hours. Write the name of the events, a short synopsis of the event and what is needed for it.

    • 3

Shade in the free spaces. These blocks symbolize your free time.

    • 4

Schedule your time realistically. Your schedule should not have unattainable goals.

    • 5

Free some time. Spontaneous events will require you to rearrange your schedule.

    • 6

Revise your schedule. Evaluate your schedule every couple of weeks. Ask yourself how it is serving you.
