Bell County, Texas, is located in the center of the state. More than 285,000 people reside within Bell County. Several cities are located within Bell County, including Temple and Fort Hood. Sixteen school districts operate within the county. Visitors to Bell County can find a variety of activities to enjoy in any of its cities.
  1. Killeen

    • Killeen is the largest city in Bell County. Killeen is adjacent to one of the largest military installations in the world, Fort Hood. Much of Killeen's economy is dependent on the soldiers stationed at Fort Hood and their families. As of the 2000 census, Killeen was home to 86,911 people. Over 50 schools make up Killeen Independent School District. Children from Killeen and neighboring Harker Heights, Nolanville and Fort Hood attend school in KISD. There are several radio stations in the Killeen area, including the popular KIIZ 92.3.

    Temple

    • Temple is the second largest city in Bell County. Temple is located 65 miles north of Austin and is considered to be one of the best cities in the state. More than 60,000 people reside in Temple. Temple is home to one of the most highly respected hospitals in the country. Scott and White Memorial Hospital was ranked one of the top 100 hospitals in the country by Thomson Reuters. More than 800 physicians and scientists practice at the hospital. Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine is also located in Temple.

    Belton

    • Belton is the county seat for Bell County. Belton is home to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. The city has 12 schools, including two high schools. Belton's population in the 2000 census was more than 14,000. Belton residents can enjoy the two major lakes that are near the city or partake in water activities at the local water park. The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame can be found in Belton.

    Fort Hood

    • Fort Hood is the largest active duty armored post in the country. The base is adjacent to Killeen and falls within Bell and Coryell counties. A majority of the base lies within Bell County. More than 35,000 people live in Fort Hood. Thousands of enlisted soldiers and their families live on the base. There are several restaurants, stores and dining clubs on the base. Residents of Fort Hood can also enjoy events that are hosted by the Fort Hood Family and MWR organization.
