Located in Fort Worth, Texas Christian University is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) but operates independently of church governorship. An historically black junior college in Kendelton, Texas, Bay Ridge Christian College currently is reorganizing. When it reopens in 2012, it will offer associate degrees in general education designed to help African-American male students transfer to four-year schools. Courses include African-American History, Biblical Literature, Algebra, Entrepreneurship, American History, American Literature, Health, Physical Education and other courses considered foundational to further higher education. The school's ability-based curricula will require students to demonstrate competency in Communication, Analysis, Problem Solving, Leadership, Global Perspective, Aesthetics and Entrepreneurship before graduating. Although the school currently is unaccredited, they are working with the Texas Higher Education Board and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to become an accredited, degree-granting institution.
