List of Boston Colleges

The Boston-area offers students a plethora of higher education options. Whether students desire to attend a two-year or four-year college, a business or vocational school, a medical school or a school for the arts, Boston has an institution of higher learning to fit their needs. Students interested in Boston colleges will need to choose what type of school they are interested in and what field of study they wish to pursue.   1. Bay State College

    • This private college is home to 1,100 students and 12 majors. Bay State offers associates and bachelor's degrees with a student-to-faculty ratio of 25:1. The college is located in the historical Back Bay area of Boston. When Bay State opened in 1946, it only served the airline industry. Today the college is accredited by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to award degrees in science, applied science, fashion merchandising, entertainment management and management. Though it is growing rapidly, Bay State College continues to offer intimate instruction.

    Boston College

    • Established by the Society of Jesus in 1863, Boston College is one of the oldest Jesuit Catholic universities in the United States. This private four-year university is a competitive school with a 30 percent acceptance rate. Of those accepted, 80 percent were in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. "U.S. News & World Report" has ranked Boston College 31st among national universities. BC is divided into nine colleges that offer 25 undergraduate, graduate, theological and doctorate degrees.

    University of Massachusetts Boston

    • UMASS Boston, as it is often called, is a satellite campus of the University of Massachusetts, a state-supported four-year school. The Boston campus is home to more than 15,000 students, 900 faculty members and 150 undergraduate and graduate academic programs. This urban campus is Boston's only public university. Located on the Columbia Point peninsula, UMASS Boston overlooks the well-known Boston harbor and offers amazing views of the Boston city skyline. Students seeking a degree are accepted as well as non-degree seeking students who wish to educate themselves for professional and/or personal enrichment.

    Massachusetts College of Art and Design

    • Massachusetts College of Art and Design, also known as MassArt, became the country's first independent public college of art and design in 1873. MassArt was also the first art school to grant a degree. The MassArt admissions process is less rigid than most colleges. The requirements are that students must have a minimum of a high school diploma and must be "passionate for the visual and media arts." The college offers 22 disciplines of bachelor of arts degrees ranging from art education to industrial design.
