College ratings are an important part of determining which colleges are the best options available and finding the best college for personal needs and taste. With so many different colleges available, there are a wide variety of rating systems as well. The college ratings will vary depending on the method of rating.

    • Forbes Magazine produces a list of colleges as the top 50 universities and colleges in the nation. The list is regularly updated for the most accurate information available.     • Kiplinger produces an annual list of the top ranked colleges and universities available. The Kiplinger rating system bases information on test scores, admission rates, student -to-teacher ratios and graduation rates. It also produces a list about the best value in colleges for the money spent on the education.

    U.S. News and World Report

    • U.S. News is one of the best-known college rating systems. U.S. News not only releases information about the ranking, but also the reasons for the ranking of the school. The ranking system for U.S. News is based on standardized test scores, class rank, rates of admission, student-to-teacher ratios, reputation surveys and graduation rates. It is updated regularly as new information becomes available.

    Washington Monthly

    • Washington Monthly's ranking of colleges is regularly updated, usually on a monthly basis. Beyond the basic scoring methods related to testing, Washington Monthly also considers information like community services, graduation rates and the types of grants offered or used by students.
