The Ringling College Admission Requirements

Ringling College of Art and Design is a private, fully-accredited college in Sarasota, Florida, offering bachelor's degrees in several fields of study, including advertising design, business of art and design, computer animation, digital filmmaking, and fine arts. Admission requirements for the college depend on the type of student applying. The school's website has downloadable versions of all forms and applications.
  1. Traditional Students

    • Traditional freshmen students applying for admission must submit a Common Application form and a nonrefundable $70 application fee. With this, a prospective student must have a completed evaluation form from a high school teacher, or a letter of recommendation, a secondary school report, and an official copy of his high school transcript. Students must also have earned a minimum 2.0 high school grade point average for consideration. For all majors except submission business of art and design, the applicant must submit an art portfolio as well.

    Transfer Students

    • Ringling's admission requirements for transfer students include submitting a completed Common Application form and the nonrefundable fee. The student must also submit a college instructor evaluation form or letter of recommendation from one of her instructors and a college official's report completed by her academic adviser. Transfer students must submit official transcripts from high school and each college attended. The student must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.0 throughout her education history. A high school transcript is not a requirement if the student has earned a minimum of 24 or more semester hours credit at an accredited college or university. An art portfolio is also required for all majors except business of art and design.

    International Students

    • For admission consideration at Ringling College, all students must be proficient in English. The college does not offer English courses for speakers of other languages. If the prospective student does not speak proficient English, he must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum score of 61 on the Internet version, 500 on the paper version of the TOEFL, or a 6.0 on the IELTS is an admission requirement for international students. These students must also submit a completed international supplement to the Common Application form.

    Home-schooled Students

    • Students that were home-schooled must have received standard diplomas recognized by their local school districts, or equivalent GEDs. Home-schooled students must have kept a 2.0 grade point average and must submit the completed home-school supplement to the Common Application, along with their art portfolios.
