Boston Community Colleges

Most people have heard of Boston's prestigious universities, such as Harvard, MIT and Boston University, but there are also some impressive community colleges within--or just outside--the greater Boston area. These community colleges offer students a chance to earn certificates and degrees in a variety of fields. They also offer weekend and night classes for the convenience of working students, and financial assistance for those who require it.
  1. Bunker Hill Community College

    • Bunker Hill Community College is a "multi-campus urban institution." Its main campus is located in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston. It has several smaller campuses and satellites across Boston, in the neighborhoods of East Boston, Somerville, Cambridge and the South End. Bunker Hill Community College offers more than 68 associate degrees and certificate programs in areas ranging from culinary arts to paralegal studies to the health professions. It provides information sessions and campus tours for prospective students.

    Roxbury Community College

    • Roxbury Community College offers degrees and certificate programs in a variety of areas, such as broadcast media, PC support specialist and business management. Prospective students age 60 or older who are residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are eligible to take classes tuition-free. The institution also gives high-school students a taste of college life with its dual-enrollment program, which accepts high-school juniors and seniors with GPAs over 3.0.

    North Shore Community College

    • Located just outside Boston in nearby Danvers, North Shore Community College offers associate degrees and certificate programs. Its "High Tech Programs" include classes that prepare students for industry certification in such areas as computer science, graphic design, web development and computer programming. North Shore Community College also offers "Spotlight Programs," which are classes specifically geared towards certain groups, including kids, GED recipients, women in transition and adult learners.
