Community Colleges in the Boston Area

New England's largest city and a center of arts and education, Boston hosts over 100 universities and colleges, including many community and junior colleges. Community colleges around Boston offer degrees in a wide range of fields and offer many opportunities to further your career. Attending two-year community college can improve your chances of being accepted into a four-year university program.
  1. Bunker Hill Community College

    • Founded in 1973, this large Boston community college in the neighborhood of Charlestown enrolls over 11,000 students each year. The school also has four satellite locations in Cambridge, Somerville, East Boston and South End, as well as a second campus in Chelsea. Choose from over 68 different associate degree and certificate programs in a wide range of fields. Students of color comprise over half of BHCC's student population, and over 108 different countries are represented. Almost two-thirds of the students are women and most work and study simultaneously. The school was featured in the hit movie "Good Will Hunting."

    Roxbury Community College

    • Also founded in 1973, this co-ed public college in Roxbury Crossing offers a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs. The school's mission is to provide Boston area residents with "optimum opportunity for access to a college education consistent with their interests and aptitudes and to reduce to a minimum economic, social, psychological and academic barriers to educational opportunity." Roxbury Community College supports many student organizations, including the Latino Americana Club, the Bible Club and the Creative Writing Club. Degree programs include early childhood education, accounting, business administration and nursing.

    Massasoit Community College

    • Founded in 1966, Massasoit Community College has two campuses in the Boston area, in Canton and Brockton. The school offers degree programs in sciences, arts and applied sciences, as well as short-term and one-year job certificates in a wide range of fields. Massasoit Community College also offers programs for high school students, seniors and children ranging from theater workshops to personal enrichment classes. In 2009 the school enrolled 7,941 students, and of these 56 percent were female, 30 percent were minorities and 49 percent were 21 or younger. Associate degree programs include business administration, criminal justice, human services, radiologic technology and culinary arts.
