Northern Virginia Community College has six campuses around in Fairfax and Prince William counties, as well as a virtual learning institute known as ELI, or the Extended Learning Institute. The college awards associate degrees and certifications and offers more than 50 areas of study. Tuition for Virginia residents is $112.45 a credit hour and $297.20 a credit hour for out-of-state students, as summer 2010.

Established in 1970, the college serves the counties of Clarke, Page, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren. The college offers 75 degree and certificate programs to more than 10,000 students. The college has an eLearning program for those who prefer distance-learning. Maryland's Anne Arundel Community College has more than 50,000 students pursuing degrees and continuing education opportunities, as of 2008. The college was established in 1961 and has more than 90 locations around Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas. Popular programs include WeekendYou, which allows students to finish one of five degree programs or certifications within two years by taking weekend or online, or hybrid courses. As of 2010, tuition for Anne Arundel County residents is $88 a credit hour, $168 a credit hour for Maryland state residents and $299 a credit hour for out-of-state residents in 2010.
