Tampa Area Community Colleges

Tampa, Florida has very few community colleges, even in neighboring areas. Most of the community colleges in Tampa are either private schools or technical schools. Many of the degrees offered are also very similar; in fact, it seems Tampa has an abundance of degrees in the various Medical professions.
  1. Hillsborough Community College

    • Hillsborough Community College is located in Hillsborough County, near Tampa, Florida. The college is the only college near Tampa bearing the actual name "community". The college was founded in 1968 and is considered one of the most diverse colleges in the state. The college offers AAS and AA degrees in the following areas: Health Sciences, Counseling and Human Services, Dental Hygiene, Sign Language Interpretation, Accounting, Culinary Management, Digital Media, Aquaculture, and Criminal Justice, as well as several others.

    Fortis College (Tampa Location)

    • Fortis College of Tampa, formerly known as Gulf Coast College, emphasizes the importance of the professional growth of every individual. This two-year, technical college offers degrees only pertaining to the fields of health care. This particular branch of Fortis College has received many positive reviews from students who are enrolled or have previously graduated from the school. The degrees offered include: Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical X-Ray Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Practical Nursing.

    Art Institute of Tampa

    • The Art Institute of Tampa is a branch of the Miami International University of Art and Design, which was founded in 2004. The branch is primarily for students wanting to obtain Associate of Art degrees in more uncommon and artistic fields. The school differs from its parent school, Miami International University of Art, in that it offers smaller classes. The degrees offered include: Culinary Arts, Digital Film-making, Digital Photography, Fashion, Game Art and Design, Interior Design, and Baking and Pastry.

    The Sanford-Brown Institute of Tampa

    • Starting as a small college in 1866, the first Sanford-Brown Institute opened to meet the demands of a changing America after the Civil War. Today, there are thirty schools within the Sanford-Brown network, which are all private colleges. The Tampa branch offers degrees which include: Cardiovascular Sonography / Technology, Dental Assisting with Expanded Functions, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Medical Billing and Coding.
