Community Colleges in Spokane, Washington

Spokane, Washington, is located near the state's eastern border. The first inhabitants were Native Americans; the first settlement by outsiders was in 1810. Today the Spokane region has over 400,000 residents, and it's home to a network of community colleges. Community colleges generally offer two-year associate's degrees, though some offer specialized bachelor's degrees as well.

    • Spokane Community College (SCC) has 1,400 students of all ages and backgrounds. SCC is fully accredited and offers associate of arts degrees, associate of applied science, associate of science transfer and certificates. Programs range from agriculture to technology to public administration. You can prepare to transfer to a four-year college or to enter the work force directly in a field such as medical assisting or culinary arts. SCC also has an open door policy, allowing anyone who has a GED, a high school diploma or permission from the vice president of enrollment and student development to enroll at the school.

    Spokane Falls Community College

    • Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is geared for students who want to complete their first two years of college inexpensively and locally. Sixty-five percent of the students are liberal arts majors preparing to transfer to another school after receiving their associate's degrees. Over 8,000 students attend SFCC, most full time. SFCC has direct transfer agreements with local four-year colleges, allowing guaranteed admission as long as you meet your program's requirements.

    Institute for Extended Learning

    • The Institute for Extended Learning (IEL) provides opportunities for adults to continue their education by completing their GED, learning English or starting college. IEL has education centers throughout the Spokane region and also offers online classes. It also offers college refresher courses to bring you up to date on college-level English and math, so that even if you've been out of school for decades, you can make a smooth transition to college.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT is a private, for-profit technical college. The Spokane campus of ITT has four schools: Criminal Justice, Drafting and Design, Electronics Technology and Information Technology. Nine associate's degree programs and six bachelor's degree programs are available, allowing you to complete a program at ITT or transfer to a four-year college. Many of the associate's degrees, such as paralegal studies, will prepare you to go directly into the work force. Online classes are also available.
