Identify the author of the source. The author name is usually in the front of the book if it is not available on the outside of the book. If the Renaissance book has a few different authors or has collections of work from different authors, either use the name of the author who wrote the work or all of the author names. If there are several author names, put them in alphabetical order. The last name goes first and the first name follows after a comma. If there is more than one author in the work, the first author name has last name followed by the first name while the next author or authors have the first name placed first.
Write the title of the work. This might be the Renaissance book title or a title of a work depending on the source. If the title is a book title, put the title in italics. If it is the title of a work within the book rather than the title of a book, such as a poem or a short story, put the title in quotations.
Write the date of the work from the Renaissance book. Whether the source is a written work or a piece of art, a date is needed. In the case of a full book, the date is usually placed at the front of the book. In the case of images like paintings or works in the book that differ from the date of the book publication, put the date listed by the work or painting after the title. Some works will not have exact dates available, in which case an estimated date is given instead. In this case, write the word "circa" and then the estimated year the book was published. This means it was published around the listed date, but the actual date is not given or not available.
Write down any publication information available. Renaissance books might not have publication information or might have only partial information available depending on the work, how well it is preserved and similar information. If there is publishing information and the book is not a collection of works, put the date of the book publication after the publishing information.
Include page numbers for the source. Page numbers are put last to tell where the information within the book came from.
