Western Washington Community Colleges

Attending a community college can be an effective way to advance your education or your career. You can work toward transferring to a 4-year institution, obtain an associate degree, or earn a professional certificate. Western Washington has several community colleges to choose from. All offer different programs, degrees and options. Choose the one that is best for you and jump start your education.
  1. Whatcom Community College

    • Whatcom Community College, located in Bellingham, offers an associate in arts and science transfer degree, an associate in science transfer degree, an associate in liberal studies degree, and more than 40 professional technical associate degrees and certificates. Transfer degrees are designed to fulfill the general education requirements of most Washington state 4-year colleges. The ALS degree requires completion of 90 credit hours across a variety of liberal arts fields. Professional technical associate degree programs include fields such as health care, business, technology and design, education, and law and justice. Whatcom Community College also provides community education classes on topics such as computer software, cooking and yoga; a running start program for high school students; and special programs such as GED preparation, English as a second language classes, a parent co-operative preschool and worker retraining.

    Cascadia Community College

    • Cascadia Community College in Bothell offers associate of arts and associate of science transfer degrees and professional certificates. Transfer degrees allow students to fulfill the general education requirements of many 4-year colleges. To make transferring credits less difficult, Cascadia offers special transfer agreements with the University of Washington Bothell, Evergreen State College, University of Phoenix and Argosy University. Associate of arts transfer degrees are available in business, elementary education, integrated studies and prenursing. Associate of science transfer degrees are offered in the biological sciences, environmental and earth science, geology, physics, atmospheric science, and engineering. In addition to core classes in emphasis areas, students must take general education distribution courses in areas such as cultural knowledge, global studies, foundations for college success, humanities, social science and natural science. Professional certificates are available in fields such as computer programming, JavaScript programming, office skills, phlebotomy and technical support specialist.

    North Seattle Community College

    • North Seattle Community College, located about five miles north of downtown Seattle, offers associate of arts, science, business, fine arts and applied science transfer degrees. Transfer degrees generally fulfill the general education requirements of 4-year institutions. North Seattle Community College partners with Washington State University, a 4-year public university, to offer guaranteed acceptance upon completion of a transfer degree. A partnership with Western Washington University allows students to work toward a bachelor's degree in education on the North Seattle Community College Campus. North Seattle Community College also offers more than 40 career training programs and certificates in fields such as parenting education, engineering technology and CAD, health and medical, and electronics.
