Western Nebraska Community Colleges

Western Nebraska has a booming population and its residents can access community colleges as a way to further their educational goals and get good-paying jobs. The community colleges in Nebraska cater to a variety of career choices, including paralegal, business education, information technology and medical assistant, and offer many other resources to help students succeed.
  1. Western Nebraska Community College

    • Western Nebraska Community College has campuses in Scottsbluff, Sidney and Alliance, and also has online courses. It offers degrees in art, anthropology, biology, business, welding and more. The college focuses on getting students ready for life after college while offering them a rich and diverse experience that includes sports, volunteer opportunities, student publications, and on-campus groups.

    Mid Plains Community College

    • Mid Plains Community College, founded in 1981, has taken this time to develop courses that will lead students toward skills suited for careers after college. Two campuses are located in North Platte, Nebraska and a third is in McCook, Nebraska. The school offers associate's degrees in building trades, business, information technology, health and medicine, and transportation/automotive and auto body. Campus life includes group activities, sports and volunteer work as well as internships and work study programs. Mid Plains Community College also offers classes for students who are not searching for a degree, but wish to partake in adult educational classes.

    Central Community College

    • Central Community College has a wide range of campuses scattered across Nebraska, including Lexington and Kearney in the western part of the state. Academic majors include accounting, business, information technology, physical education, physical science, criminal justice and many more career-building subjects. Internships offer students a chance to actively participate in their fields of choice through hands-on experience.

    Nebraska Indian Community College

    • The Nebraska Indian Community College originally opened to assist people of Native American descent pursue their academic dreams, but it's now open to everyone. This college has two Nebraska campuses, in South Sioux City and Niobrara. Student organizations include American Indian Science and Engineering Society and the Nebraska Indian Community College Student Senate, as well as intramural and community events. Academic courses include art, automotive, biology, business, education, medical, information technology, sociology, and psychology. Academic advising is available to students and career counseling is also available.
