CNA Programs in New Hampshire

In order to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in New Hampshire, four basic requirements must be fulfilled. New Hampshire CNA candidates must pass a licensing exam, have an employment record in good standing, and pass a background check and physical exam. CNA training is available through a variety of outlets throughout the state, including the community college system, hospitals and the American Red Cross.

    • At River Valley Community College in Claremont, the CNA program can be completed in eight weeks. Students attend classes on a part-time basis: two evenings and one day during the weekend. The program includes 48 hours of classroom time, 24 hours of clinical lab and 72 hours of direct care under supervision.

    American Red Cross: Great Bay chapter

    • The American Red Cross chapter in Newington provides a nursing assistant course. The program includes 120 hours of class instruction and 60 hours in clinical, and both day and evening classes are available. The limit for class sizes is 16, but there must be at least 12 students enrolled. New Hampshire has chapters around the state that may also provide the same training. There's also a clear advantage to taking classes at the American Red Cross. According to the American Red Cross Website, 95 percent of the program's graduates are placed in employment.

    Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities

    • Nursing assistant programs in New Hampshire are available through the community college system, and various health care facilities.

      The Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities is a facility for special needs children that also offers free training programs to the community. According to Cedarcrest's Website, the nursing assistant course lasts five weeks, with evening classes Monday through Friday and one class on Saturday. People who are interested must fill out an application and take a test to qualify.

    Hearts and Minds Healthcare Training

    • Hearts and Minds located in Derry offers a six-week CNA program. Classes take place twice a week at one of three locations: Derry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, The Arbors of Bedford, and Harborside North of Bedford. Students get 48 hours of classroom instruction and 60 hours of clinical work. Students must pay tuition, but Hearts and Minds provides free unlimited tutoring.

    St. Joseph School of Nursing

    • St. Joseph Hospital's Health Occupations Program offers nursing assistant courses. The Nashua hospital's nursing assistant program provides students with 90 hours of theory and 90 hours of clinical experience. The program takes 8 to 12 weeks to complete, with classes held throughout the year.
