Colleges That Have Massage Therapy Programs

The massage industry is steadily growing, and therapists are in demand. Training in massage therapy will prepare students for careers on cruise ships, fitness centers, rehabilitation clinics, and more. When searching for a college that offers massage therapy, consider one that fulfills your state's minimum requirements for licensing.
  1. Lane Community College

    • Lane is located in Eugene, Oregon, and is a comprehensive community college offering an open entry/open exit program for Massage Therapy. This means that students may start class in any term and take as many courses as their schedule permits. Lane's massage therapy program consists of 629 hours, which is more than the minimum 500 hours that Oregon requires for a state license. Courses include anatomy, kinesiology, ethics, and hands-on training. Lane College offers financial aid to assist with tuition costs.

    De Anza College

    • De Anza College is located in Cupertino, CA. They were the first community college in California to offer an approved degree and certificate program for massage therapy. Two certificate programs are available - Certificate of Achievement (516 hours) and Certificate of Achievement Advanced (876 hours) Both take approximately two years to complete, depending on the student's schedule. The Associate of Arts degree program is a 52-unit or 1,020 hour program, which also includes courses in sports massage and shiatsu. Students who successfully complete the massage therapy program at De Anza are well prepared to pass the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and qualify for AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) professional membership.

    Community College of Vermont

    • The Community College in Vermont has 12 campuses and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The Associate of Applied Science degree (65 credits) for massage therapy and bodywork is available at the Winooski campus and a few other campuses around the state (contact advisor for details). A certificate program (47 credits) is also available for students who would like to become massage therapists but aren't interested in pursuing the degree program. Massage program students must provide documentation of immunizations. Financial assistance is available for education expenses.
