Riverside Community College District offers an associate's degree in dental hygiene at its Moreno Valley campus. Twenty students are admitted into the two-year program each fall term. Prerequisite classes needed before entering the program include anatomy and physiology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology, sociology, physical education, math, speech and English. Students must complete 60.5 credit hours of course work to graduate. Classes include principles of dental hygiene and oral radiology, infection and pain control, introduction to periodontology, dental emergencies and dental materials.

Grand Rapids Community College has a three-year dental hygiene program which consists of 107 credit hours. Thirty-one of those hours are for nondental courses taken during the first year. Dental hygiene coursework begins in the second year. Classes include dental head and neck anatomy, general and oral pathology, nutrition for the dental hygienist, dental specialties and community dental health. Graduates are awarded an associate's degree in dental hygiene.

Wallace State Community College offers an associate's degree in dental hygiene which takes five semesters to complete. Thirty students are admitted each fall. The program is designed to give students the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level dental hygiene positions. Students will take 35 credit hours of general education courses. Degree courses include pharmacology, dental hygiene theory, dental anatomy, histology and embryology.

Pima Community College offers an associate's degree in dental hygiene. Prerequisite classes needed for admission to the program include intermediate algebra, computer fundamentals and literacy and fundamentals of organic and biochemistry. Coursework includes dental and oral morphology, preventive dentistry, pain and anxiety control, computers and practice management and advanced periodontal services. Several support courses, including psychology, sociology and oral communication, also are required . The program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
