Colleges That Offer Medical Coding Programs

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for medical records and health information technicians will increase by 20 percent from 2008 through 2018. Postsecondary education is necessary for prospective coders because it teaches them necessary medical terminology and health insurance code systems. A number of schools in the United States offer medical coding programs that carry the approval of the American Health Information Management Association, allowing graduates to become certified as coders.
