If you wish to work in the field of dental hygiene, there are many schools and programs that can help you reach your goals. Some schools offer bachelors degrees and others offer certificate courses. The amount of time you are looking to spend learning the field will determine which program is best for you. Research the schools available to you to find the one that best meets your needs.
  1. VCU

    • The Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry has a comprehensive dental hygiene program available to students who wish to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Once you have completed the program you are then eligible to take licensing examinations. Some of the classes you will take throughout the program include Dental Radiology, Dental Hygiene Theory, Dental Materials and Oral Pathology. There are financial aid options available to eligible students who may need help with funding.

    UMA

    • University of Maine at Augusta has its very own Dental Hygiene School. The school offers various programs that can lead to you graduating with a BS in Dental Hygiene, an AS in Dental Hygiene or even a Certificate in Dental Assisting. All the programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Tuition rates as of Summer 2010 are $200 per credit hour for Maine residents and $484 per credit hour for out of state students. There are federal, state, and even university aid available to those who need help with covering tuition costs.

    • The University of Detroit Mercy's School of Dentistry has a specialized dental hygiene program. The learning for this program takes place not only in classrooms but also in clinics for hands-on learning. The programs offered are a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Certificate in Dental Hygiene. There is no waiting list to join the school. Once you have completed your program it is possible to find related jobs in school systems, hospitals and with insurance companies to name just a few. Also once you have finished you will then be eligible to take dental hygiene licensing exams in any state.
