Dental Hygiene Schools in Oklahoma

Dental hygiene careers can lead to jobs in dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontist positions, and dental hygienist positions. Colleges all over the country offer courses in dental hygiene to students. Oklahoma has over 50 colleges and universities located within its borders, many of which offer courses in dental hygiene.
  1. University of Oklahoma

    • Offering degrees in dentistry and dental hygiene, the University of Oklahoma requires a minimum of 128 credit hours to complete. You can complete coursework in the later years of study on site at several approved dentist offices or oral surgery centers. The University also offers you the option of completing some of the coursework as a distance learning experience if you're a non-traditional student who works during the day or normal class hours. The courses are separated into several categories: clinical, management, research, education of marketing, public health, and extended care.

    Rose State College

    • Because of its prestige, the dental hygiene program at Rose State College requires very strict guidelines to admissions. What's more is that the college only accepts about 50 students into the program every year. Students that are looking to apply must have a GPA of at least 2.0 with half of the courses taken being science or math oriented. The coursework itself lasts four semesters at least, with each semester being 18 credit hours, or six classes per semester. However, you have the option to space it out over six semesters, slimming down the coursework considerably.

    Tulsa Community College

    • Though the requirements are less strenuous than other colleges of dental hygiene, the Tulsa Community College dental hygiene program offers you many diverse courses about the necessities of dental hygiene. Each year, only 14 students are admitted into the program, making the admission more competitive. However, the requirements do not regulate classes taken prior to application. The Tulsa Community College program also takes at least four semesters of study.

    Oklahoma State University

    • Though it doesn't offer degree programs in dental hygiene, Oklahoma State University does offer coursework in dentistry, which relates to the field of dental hygiene. Most courses are set up to be transferred to a university that offers more intuitive courses on dental hygiene, but students that are looking to study dentistry can state with basic courses here.
