The Academy of Hair Design offers cosmetology training at four Mississippi campuses, including Jackson, Pearl, Grenada and Hattiesburg. The Pearl campus is an authorized Paul Mitchell training center. In addition to cutting hair, students at the Academy learn skills such as perming, coloring and chemical hair relaxing. Classes are offered during both the daytime and evenings. The average student at the Academy will take classes 25 hours each week. Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or the equivalent. After completing certain assignments and 250 hours of training, students at the Academy are required to provide services to the general public before they graduate.

The Mississippi Institute of Aesthetics, Nails and Cosmetology provides preparation for a career as a successful cosmetologist, including training for client care, shampooing, hair design, perms, manicuring, various aspects of massage, skin care and salesmanship. The program also prepares students to take their state board exam by familiarizing them with the state's rules and laws in addition to all relevant techniques. Students at the Mississippi Institute of Aesthetics, Nails and Cosmetology will also have the opportunity to work with the public at the institute's salon.

The Magnolia College of Cosmetology in Jackson is Mississippi's only Pivot Point school. Pivot Point training programs for cosmetologists require 1,500 hours of training. Pivot Point focuses both on the artistic side of cosmetology as well as practical business training and broad-based cosmetology education. Classes include theory of design, color theory applications and avant-garde updos. The college enjoys accreditation from the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences and carries a license from the State Board of Cosmetology.

The Creations College of Cosmetology in Tupelo trains cosmetologists and cosmetology instructors. Students at Creations must have previously earned a high school diploma or an equivalent. Cosmetology students must train continuously for a full calendar year and a total of 1,500 hours. In accordance with Mississippi state law, the program is divided into approximately 60 percent hands-on training and 40 percent classroom education.
