Nevada Cosmetology Schools

Several privately owned schools offer cosmetology courses in Nevada, although none of the state's community colleges does. It's important that you can trust your course provider to give you high-quality instruction, good value for money and all the resources you need to attain your license. For peace of mind, look for accreditation by the American Association of Cosmetology Schools, the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology or the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.
  1. Expertise Cosmetology Institute

    • Las Vegas' Expertise Institute offers a comprehensive range of courses in all areas of cosmetology and its associated careers, from hair coloring to beauty journalism. The Expertise Institute's programs, conducted in its 11,000 square-foot training center, are geared toward the professional market, and can require between 600 and 1,800 hours of study. Would-be salon owners can study the business side of the cosmetology industry as well as its practical aspects. Bilingual instruction and financial aid are available.

Euphoria Institute of Beauty Arts & Sciences

    • The Euphoria Institute is the cosmetology branch of the Lincoln Group of Schools. It has three campuses in the Las Vegas area, Aliante, Green Valley and Summerlin. All offer students the opportunity to practice their skills on members of the public in the controlled environment of student salon clinics. Euphoria's cosmetology course offers practical instruction by industry professionals in a wide range of skills required by professional cosmetologists, and financial aid is available.

    The Milan Institute

    • The Milan Institute has several locations nationwide; its Nevada campus is situated in Reno. The school places a particular emphasis on setting its students up for a professional career, stressing their reputation among employers, careers service assistance and an up-to-date curriculum. Professional-level courses for cosmetologists and estheticians are offered, taught by experienced instructors in small classes. The institute operates two salons for student practice in Nevada, and also offers financial aid.

    Paul Mitchell Schools

    • The nationwide Paul Mitchell group has two Nevada locations, in Reno and Las Vegas. The cosmetology courses appear to place a particular emphasis on the hair design area of the industry, but also cover spa services such as makeup, aromatherapy, skin care, nail artistry and commercial concerns. Separate nail academy and skin academy courses are also offered, as is advanced training for those already practicing cosmetology.

    Carson City Beauty Academy

    • The Carson City Beauty Academy takes a holistic approach to cosmetology education, aiming to create fully-rounded professionals capable of practicing in all key areas of the beauty industry. The school strives to ensure that its graduates can work with the public on a daily basis. This approach seems to pay off: for the year 2007-08 the academy's students achieved an impressive 97 percent pass rate in the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology exams.

    Marinello Schools of Beauty

    • Established in 1905, the Marinello Schools can't be faulted for historical pedigree. The chain has kept up with the times, though, and offers a comprehensive range of programs in all areas of cosmetology, including hair styling, skin care, makeup and nail care. Marinello also provides courses in spa and massage therapies, and can prepare students for diplomas from CIDESCO, the international beauty therapy certification body. The group's Nevada locations are in Las Vegas, Henderson and Reno.
