Located in Boston, the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology offers a practical electricity certificate program. The two-semester program introduces students to different wiring methods, transformers, motors and industrial electronics. Students learn in traditional classroom settings, as well as in hands-on wiring labs. In addition to job site safety, students take classes in electrical code, wiring, circuit theory, machinery and motors. Through the certificate program, students earn work experience and education hours toward licensure as a journeyman electrician. Through the electrical technology program, students learn how to install electrical systems in offices, manufacturing plants and houses. Coursework includes electric technology concepts like the National Electric Code, motors, transformers, generators, electronic controllers, machine tools and industrial robots. The Porter and Chester Institute electrical technology training program prepares students to take the L-6 and E-2 licensure exams for certified electricians in New England. According to Campus Explorer, the institute is designed for working adults, and offers a 12-month morning and afternoon schedule or an 18-month evening schedule.
