Online Phlebotomy Training Programs

Phlebotomists are health-care professionals who collect blood samples. They typically complete two-year associate degree or certificate programs in phlebotomy, some of which are available online. Employment of clinical laboratory workers such as phlebotomists is expected to rise 14 percent between 2008 and 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. SimplyHired.com reports that average phlebotomist salaries in the United States in 2010 were $26,000. Several online phlebotomy training programs allow students to balance their studies with other life commitments.
  1. Phlebotomy Services

    • Phlebotomy Services offers an online program that allows students to learn how to draw blood at their own pace. In the program, videos demonstrate how to give venipunctures and fingersticks to collect blood from patients. Online lessons also cover topics such as the definition of blood, medical terminology and legal issues in phlebotomy. To successfully complete the program, students must pass quizzes and a final exam. The training lasts three days and leads to a certificate. To apply for the online program---which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week---students must have a high school diploma or GED. The online program is especially useful for students who can arrange to gain hands-on practice of phlebotomy skills at a local facility. Phlebotomy Services was founded in 1997 and is an approved Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education provider of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
