Located in Harrisburg, Dauphin County Technical School is a career-training high school for students in the Central Dauphin, Derry Township, Halifax Area, Lower Dauphin, Middletown Area and Susquehanna Township School Districts. Among the school's 24 career programs are courses in automotive technology and auto body and fender repair. The program is open to students in ninth through 12th grades. Classrooms are arranged to resemble professional repair or auto body shops. In addition to courses related to their chosen career, students also complete the state-required curriculum for high school graduation, resulting in the conferring of a high school diploma and career certificate upon graduation. The school is free to students in the Dauphin County Technical School service area. All students receive career counseling from the school.

Founded in 1964, Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) is a public, two-year post-secondary school with a branch campus in Harrisburg. The college offers an associate's degree in automotive technology, which requires two years of full-time study to complete. Among the courses required for the major are automotive power plants, electronics, fuel and emissions, brake systems, transmissions and service department management. All students complete a paid, cooperative work placement prior to graduation. After graduation, students are qualified to take all eight automotive service certification exams offered through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Eligible students can receive federal and state loans and grants, scholarships and work-study financial aid benefits. Job placement assistance is available. The college operates an on-campus daycare, which provides low-cost childcare for students' children.

Cumberland-Perry Area Vocational and Technical School is in Mechanicsburg, about 14 miles from Harrisburg. The school offers programs for both secondary students and adults. High school students can elect to study automotive technology or collision repair. The automotive technology program is approved by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation and the Automotive Youth Educational System. Both programs are open to students in ninth through 12th grades. For adults, the college offers training courses in conducting state automobile inspections and emissions inspections. For secondary students, enrollment is free. Adults are assessed a registration fee. No financial aid is available.
