• The Stuart campus of the MedVance Institute trains students for a range of careers, including medical assistant, medical billing and coding specialist, medical office administration and practical nursing. Day and evening classes are offered, with programs lasting about one year. Students receive classroom and hands-on instruction. Students usually are required to show proof of high school graduation or GED. MedVance will work with students to obtain financial aid.

Chapman School of Seamanship

• The Chapman School of Seamanship offers classes and certification in marine surveying, professional mariner training (PMT) and United States Coast Guard license training. The marine surveying classes teach students how to appraise vessels for insurance or sale, and how to assess damage to vessels. The PMT program prepares students for careers as deckhands, mates, navigators and captains. The Coast Guard training is for students with practical experience and time on the water, but not credentials. The Chapman School of Seamanship also offers individualized programs in safety, resource management and marine radio operator training.

Star Academy for Pet Stylists

• The Star Academy for Pet Stylists is a private school that trains pet groomers. Basic pet grooming is a 150-hour class that teaches prospective groomers how to handle pets, how to prepare a pet for grooming and how trim nails and pads. The second-level class--intermediate pet grooming--is a 200-hour class that covers basic trimming techniques, the use of chemicals and dips, and first aid and CPR for pets. The final stage in the training program is a 250-hour program--professional all-breed grooming and management--that teaches advanced grooming techniques and prepares students for roles in managing a grooming shop.

Vocational Adult Community Education

• The School Board of Martin County offers a vocational adult education program (VACE). In addition to classes in business, computers and writing, VACE offers technical special-interest classes. The classes include aviation ground school and a class on battery-powered electric vehicles, as of April 2010.
