WyoTech is the only technical college within the city limits of Long Beach. The programs here include plumbing, electrical, HVAC and all types of automotive repair services. Financial aid can be applied towards tuition for eligible students. The school is formerly known as the Wyoming Technical Institute, starting in that state and expanding to several other locations around the country.
The T & R HiTech institute is a specialty school that exclusively trains people to become Certified California State Smog Technicians. The school is located in Long Beach and trains students over the course of six classes. These classes are all necessary in order to take the state smog exam. According to the school, as of 2011, other specialized classes will be added to the itinerary as the popularity of hybrid and electrical vehicles increases. School officials estimate that at least 200 hours of training are necessary to get certified in all six classes.
Westwood College is located about 15 minutes outside Long Beach. The college provides students with the option to attend the School of Design or Business. Here, students can choose from career paths that include computer aided design and architecture or construction management. A bachelor's degree in construction management can lead to a supervisory position on a work site with higher pay rates than construction workers.
ITT Technical Institute has campuses all over the country, including one about 15 minutes outside of Long Beach in Torrance. This campus features schools of electronics technology, drafting and design, business, criminal justice and information technology. The programs offer opportunities to earn both Associate's and Bachelor's of Science degrees. Financial aid is also available here for qualified students.
