The Culinary Institute of Virginia is located in Norfolk, with some classes being available in Virginia Beach as well as online. The school offers two programs. The first is an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts. This is a 15-month program that introduces students to the food service industry and management techniques. It also prepares them for work in a professional kitchen by teaching knife techniques, basic and advanced cooking techniques and baking techniques. A bachelor's degree is also offered in food service management. Both programs offer students externships to get real-world experience. Graduates are also offered aid in searching for jobs after completion of their program.
Medtech opened its location in Falls Church in 1999 to serve people interested in their programs who live in eastern Virginia and Washington, D.C. The school is well-known for its English as a Second Language program. It also offers associate's and diploma programs in the following medical fields: medical assistant, medical billing & coding, medical office specialist and phlebotomy. Each of these programs offer hands-on training that specifically prepares students to enter the job market. Upon graduation, students will find help getting a job through Medtech's career-services department.
For over 110 years, South University has been offering technical training for students. One of its campuses is located in Richmond. This is a small school with ten classrooms and teaching labs for health care, chemistry and information technology courses. The class sizes are small in order to facilitate the maintenance of a close relationship between students and instructors. Programs available at this school include an associate's degree in paralegal studies, a bachelor's in psychology, a bachelor's of science in healthcare management, a bachelor's in nursing and master's in business administration.
The National Massage Therapy Institute has a location in Falls Church. The program is typically completed in eight months with classes available during the day, evenings and on weekends. A 12-month program is also available for students who require a lighter load. The program is diverse and offers courses in Swedish massage, sports massage, shiatsu and neuromuscular massage therapy in addition to ethics and management classes. Graduates will be ready to take the National Certification Exam in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, which is required by most states for licensure. After completing the program, students of the school have gone on to work in spas, cruise boats, gyms and chiropractic offices.
