The Art Institute is a conglomeration of educational institutions focusing on training for creative-based careers. The Jacksonville campus has its programs encased in four divisions: Design, Media Arts, Fashion and Culinary. The 12 diploma, associate and bachelor's programs that the Art Institute of Jacksonville offers include subject areas such as graphic design, fashion and retail management, culinary arts, digital filmmaking and web design. There is also a General Education program for students who wish to engage in interdisciplinary study.
The Commercial Diving Academy (CDA) is the only commercial diving school in the southeastern U.S. More than just a diving school, however, the institution teaches students how to become underwater welding technicians, dive medic technicians, emergency medical technicians, hyperbaric chamber technicians, sports diving instructors and maritime welding specialists. The length of its programs varies from three to 20 weeks.
Founded in 2000, Culinard is the culinary-school division of Virginia College, a chain of post-secondary institutions owned by the Education Corporation of America. Its campus at Jacksonville was the second one opened--in 2009. Culinard offers two 36-week training program. The Culinary Arts diploma is the more generalized program, set apart from the aptly-titled Pastry Arts specialization. Students at Culinard not only learn cooking techniques, but other duties such as controlling food and labor cost, establishing and maintaining food service industry sanitation and safety standards, and learning about the history and origin of various cuisines.
As of February 2011, Florida Career College has a network of 10 campuses throughout the state. Seven of the eight programs the Jacksonville campus offers are computer- and health care related. The computer programs consist of the 24-month, 96-credit Computer Network Engineer associate degree; the 15-month, 61-credit Computer Network Technician diploma; and the 9-month, 37-credit Computer Repair Technician diploma. Aspiring medical assistants and medical coders and billers need to complete a 12-month, 42-credit diploma program; while the shorter medical office administrator and patient care technician tracks consist of 31 credits. FCC Jacksonville also provides a 12-month, 60-credit cosmetology program.
