Atlanta Technical Schools

Atlanta is called the "Silicon Valley of the South" by City-Data.com because of the rapid growth of industries such as business, fashion, entertainment and technologies. The city has 13 Fortune 500 and 24 Fortune 1,000 headquarters, according to the City of Atlanta Online. Atlanta's rapid business growth necessitates an educated workforce. To meet growing demands, Atlanta technical schools offer certificates, associate degree and bachelor degree programs. These programs let students enter the workforce in two years or less.

    • Atlanta Technical College provides more than 80 programs in business, information technology, trades, cosmetology and health and awards associate degrees, diplomas and certificates. This technical school is part of the Technical College System of Georgia. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. Applicants must at least 16 years old, hold high school diplomas or GEDs and have ACT or SAT scores. Prospective students without ACT or SAT scores must take the admission placement test. Select programs have additional criteria for student; Allied Health Programs require immunization against infectious diseases. Students complete programs in approximately two years.

    Brown Mackie College

    • Brown Mackie College of Atlanta offers programs in accounting, business, criminal justice, early childhood education, healthcare administration, paralegal assistance and surgical technology. Students can take one course a month and attend school part-time or full-time to earn their associate's degrees, certificates or diplomas. Programs offered at this technical college are accredited by the Accredited Council for Independent Colleges and Schools and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. If students have attended other accredited institutes of higher education, they must submit transcripts to admissions. Admissions also considers past work experience. Brown Mackie provides financial aid and veteran's education benefits.

    American InterContinental University

    • American InterContinental University offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in business, criminal justice, fashion design and information technology. This school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Students receive training directly related to their career goals. To enroll in this college, potential students must complete an online application, submit a high school diploma or GED and undergo an interview with an admissions adviser. The admissions department considers transfer credit from accredited universities and past work experience when analyzing applications. English as a Second Language students must have proof of English proficiency, such as TOEFL or other assessments.
