North Texas Aviation Schools

Long distances and a multitude of airports make Texas a popular state for aviation. In North Texas, there are a wide variety of aviation schools to choose from. These range from schools that focus solely on aviation, to larger institutions that include aviation schools or programs. Schools also range in focus; some are targeted toward aspiring pilots, while others teach aircraft maintenance.
  1. Baylor Institute for Air Science

    • Baylor University's Institute for Air Science was founded in 1991 and aims to educate a "new generation of pilots." The flight school grants a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Science (B.S.A.S) degree. The IAS combines education theory with practical aviation knowledge.

    LeTourneau University

    • Based in Longview, this private university has an aviation program that was granted the Loening Trophy in 2009, recognizing the best collegiate aviation program in the country. LeTourneau grants degrees in a wide variety of aviation-related fields, including aeronautical science and air traffic control. The university is faith-based, and LeTourneau promises a "professional degree in aviation from a Christian perspective."

    Midland College Professional Pilot Program

    • Midland College trains aspiring pilots for employment with regional airlines. The school provides a five semester program that grants graduating student an Associates Degree in Applied Science. Students have the option of seeking a Bachelor of Applied Technology at Midland College following the flight program. Midland also offers an optional certified flight instructor program.

    Slipstream Aviation

    • Slipstream fashions itself "Dallas' premier flight school." This aviation school focuses on teaching aspiring pilots basic flight skills. Slipstream also offers an advanced program for pilots wishing to add additional ratings in advanced skills.
