Music Recording Schools in Texas

Anyone fascinated with the behind-the-scenes technical magic that goes into producing a musical recording, whether it's classical, pop or speed metal, will most likely want to invest in education at a recording school. Audio engineering theory and concepts, equipment skills, music editing and mixing are covered in these schools. A diploma or certificate from one will give you the edge you need to succeed. If you live in Texas, there are several music recording schools available in your area.
  1. MediaTech Institute

    • Recording Arts Diploma program is a 57.5 quarter credit hour program that takes about 11 months to complete. Courses include subjects such as audio engineering both in the studio and live venue, mixing and editing and the business aspects of music recording. Enrollment is open to anyone 18 and older with a high school diploma or GED.

    The Recording Conservatory of Austin

    • From its humble beginnings as a small recording studio in a house in central Austin, The Recording Conservatory of Austin has developed into a premier educational institution as well. Its Recording Arts Program is divided into beginner and advanced classes, and the whole program takes a little over a year to complete. Classes cover recording techniques, audio software, music theory, business and competition, among other subjects. Other than being at least 18 and having a proficiency in the English language, there are no other requirements for admission.

    The Recording Connection Audio Institute

    • The Recording Connection Audio Institute is an alternative to more traditional schools in that it provides education in a mentor/apprentice model rather than a classroom model. Students are matched with mentors in the music recording business to provide real-world training in an actual studio or live venue environment. The student's textbook work is self-paced. Mentors are located in Austin, Dallas and Houston. The Music Producing and Audio Engineering course covers everything from music theory to studio mixing, with instruction in the latest technologies such as MIDI production and surround sound engineering. The program typically lasts six months and enrollment is open to anyone 18 and older.

    The Art Institutes

    • The Art Institute has campuses in several states including Texas, and its Austin and Houston locations offer a program in Audio Production. This program covers recording (studio and live venue), audio production for video and broadcast, mixing, analog and digital production and more. The program is an actual degree program, with graduates earning a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production. It takes a minimum of three years and 180 credit hours to complete the program and earn a degree. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
