Full Sail offers an associate of science degree in recording engineering designed to give students the tools they need for entry into an audio recording career. Classes are required in a variety of topics including music theory, electronics, recording equipment, computer science, music business, song writing, music history, production and post-production techniques. Twenty-four classes are required to graduate. Classes are taught in four-week sessions on the school's Florida campus. Graduates can then qualify for a number of careers including tape operator, sound designer, Pro Tools operator and interactive audio engineer.
County College of Morris, located in New Jersey, offers an Associate in Science degree in music recording. The program is designed to introduce students to common equipment and practices in modern music recording. Topics covered include multi-track techniques, live recording techniques, hard disk recording and editing software. Hands-on experience is emphasized with exposure to both digital and analog recording equipment. Students are required to either pass an audition and music theory exam, or take three first-year classes in basic musicianship, piano and aural comprehension.
Cuyahoga Community College offers an associate of applied science degree in recording arts and technology, with classes taught on the Cleveland, Ohio campus. A total of 70 credits are required in order to graduate. Sample class titles include MIDI technology, audio transducers, digital audio theory, music business, survey of world music and live sound reinforcement. An internship or field experience in the last semester gives students the hands-on, practical experience necessary for success in their chosen career.
