Missouri Vocational Technical Schools

Vocational and technical schools are designed to prepare students for careers in a variety of industries, including automotive technology, computers, health science, agriculture and construction. Community colleges require students to complete general education requirements in addition to career training, but vocational and technical schools only prepare students for careers. Programs educate students in the classroom and in the field.

    • Located in Columbia, Missouri, the Columbia Area Vocational Technical School offers both high school and adult education programs. The high-school program prepares students for vocational careers in the arts, industrial technology, health services, business, human services and natural resources. While the adult education program offers personal enrichment courses, students can also take courses that prepare them for business occupations, trade and industry careers, and health positions. Online programs are available for students with personal and professional obligations.

    Grand River Technical School

    • The Grand River Technical School is located in Chillicothe, Missouri, in the northern part of the state. Vocational training programs at the school include agriculture, business technology, child services, health services technology and more. Programs at the school teach students through classroom work and field training. The school helps students in looking for housing, and, according to the school's website, 90 percent of students receive financial aid.

    Hannibal Career and Technical Center

    • The Hannibal Career and Technical Center in Hannibal, Missouri, on the Mississippi River, prepares students for careers in a variety of industries, including trade, business, computers, nursing and respiratory care. The two-year vocational school offers certificate program in those fields. Students at the school also have access to the Guidance and Career Service center, which helps them find employment after graduation. Applicants to the program must have a high-school diploma or GED and pass a background check.

    Hillyard Technical Center

    • The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement Association accredits the Hillyard Technical Center. Programs prepare students for vocational careers in auto collision technology, construction technology, fire science, welding technology, landscaping and more. The vocational school is located in St. Joseph, Missiouri. Student resources include financial aid, students placement and vocational resource center. In order to accommodate working adults, the vocational school offers courses online, during the evening and on weekends.
